Here's How It Works

The inaugural Wamego Community Foundation Match Day is currently scheduled to be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 as A Day of Community Pride and Inspiration in Giving.  This event provides a unique and incredible fund-raising opportunity for nonprofit agencies and other charitable organizations which have a fund with a balance of not less than $1,000 with the Wamego Community Foundation on Match Day.

On this initial Match Day for the City of Wamego, the Wamego Community Foundation will provide a 50% match on donations made by various donors from the community at large to these Match Day participating entities, which has been made possible by generous donations made to the Foundation by Match Day Benefactors.

Here’s how it works:

  • Donors are encouraged to come to the event and to make a donation or, in the alternative, to make an online donation at a remote location, to one or several of the organizations participating as charitable recipients for this event, which has been scheduled to be held as follows:

    Date:    Friday, June 7, 2019

Time:    7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. for live venue attendees for this Event

    (Online gifts can be made between 12:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. on June 7)

Place:   Iron Clad at 427 Lincoln Avenue in Downtown Wamego, KS

  • Individual contributions ranging from $25 to $2,000 per organization will receive a local match equal to approximately $.50 for each $1 donated by individuals from the community during the time period for the Match Day event.  For example, a participating organization receiving a $2,000 gift would be entitled to receive an additional $1,000 in local matching funds.  If a donor gives a $5,000 gift which is split evenly among five organizations, then each organization receiving $1000 would be eligible to receive the additional $500 in matching funds.

  • Combined donations up to a total of $4,000 for each organization can be matched at 50%, which, in turn, has the potential to provide a maximum of  $2,000 in matching funds for each participating organization.

  • Gifts made by community donors will go into each organization’s fund with WCF.  The match money earned by each non-profit or other charitable organization is an outright grant and may be used as each organization chooses and directs.  Some may choose to add the amount of their gifts to an endowment or they may choose to use all or a portion of funds receive as may be needed for payment of day-to-day operating expenses.

  • Gifts can be made in the form of cash, a check, or online using a credit card. Gifts in the form of cash or checks should be made in person at the live event at the Iron Clad.  Credit card gifts can be made online either at a remote location or at the event itself.

When donating by check, only one check should be written for the total amount due from an individual, whether it be for a single donation or for multiple donations made by a single individual or entity to multiple organizations.  Each check shall be made payable to the Wamego Community Foundation (WCF).  A separate distribution donation form will available to be completed and used to designate which organization fund or funds are to benefit from the donations which are indicated on this form.

  • Throughout the Match Day event, one individual donor who has made a gift in person at the live Wamego Match Day event will be randomly chosen by a drawing held every hour (out of that hour’s donations) to win an extra $50 to be donated to the charity of their choice.

Building endowments is one of the primary goals of this Match Day, and is critical for the present and future support of non-profit and other charitable organizations who participate in this Wamego Match Day event. However, each of these organizations also have ongoing monthly operating expenses, and as a consequence,  each are also in need of contributions to their annual operating expense campaigns.

Wamego Match Day provides an opportunity to contribute to both their current support as well as to grow their endowments and to enrich their charitable causes and programs to provide for even greater impact for years to come.
