Mission
The Wamego Fire Department Auxiliary (WFDA) serves as a support to the Wamego Fire Department (WFD) firefighters and their families. WFDA gives assistance for hospitalizations and deaths in the family, takes water to fire calls, and organizes social gatherings to promote bonding among the department members. In addition, the group coordinates WFD community events, adopts a Christmas Bureau family at Christmas time, and organizes the Wamego Fire Banquet in February. The group also fundraises to provide monetary support for the department and has established a scholarship in memory of WFD fallen firefighter John Randle.
Profile
The Wamego Fire Department is a volunteer department which responds to over 500 calls a year. The WFD responds to calls for: fires, carbon monoxide alarms, smoke alarms, gas leaks, car accidents, mutual aid, and medical support. They also provide storm spotting, Life Star assist, water rescue, and 4th of July pyrotechnic support. Each fall, the Wamego firefighters gives many demonstrations and tours of the fire truck to daycares, schools, and other groups during Fire Safety Week. Additionally, the firefighters attend safety training and acive shooter training.
