Kids Connection of Wamego

Specific Need

Donations made to Kids Connection of Wamego will be used to meet the needs of foster children and other children in the area.  A trend that we have noticed is that as the holidays approach, the demands for foster children needs rise.  The holiday season, sadly, seems to be the time when we receive more calls/texts from foster families/DCF workers with children being taken from their homes.  As this time is fast approaching, we are appreciative to have funds available to meet these needs.

Kid Connections of Wamego was created in May 2020.  Its purpose was to provide for the clothing and supply needs of foster children or any other child in the area.   It was brought about by emergency foster parents who saw needs first-hand by having foster children placed in their home.  We have basically assembled a closet of clothes, shoes, undergarments, outer garments,  toys, diapers, and other baby needs. When we get the call, we can immediately fill the need for these items for the children.   Our services have evolved through time, as we become more aware of how we can better serve our nitch of the population. 

Our goals for October 2023 to October 2024 include, but are not limited to the following

         - Continuing to build our network of foster parents in order to provide needed items to foster children.

         - Donating new and gently used coats to our local coat drives.

         - Donating school supplies to our local August backpack program.

         - Donating toys/games, gloves/mittens, socks, and hats to our local Christmas Bureau.

         - Donating food to the local "Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat" school program. 

         - Continuing with the Operation Christmas Shoe Box program.

October 2022- October 2023 achievements/changes

          -  First and foremost served immediate needs foster children in the surrounding area 

          -  Supplied 25 new or gently used coats to coat drives

          -  Gave toys, socks, gloves, and other gift items to the local Christmas Bureau via local banks 

          -  Discontinued our school supply area, donating all the supplies to the local Backpack program

          -  Purchased and donated groceries to the Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat

          -  Packed and shipped 50 Christmas Shoe Boxes.  

October 2021 -  October 2022 achievements/changes

          - Served immediate needs for foster children - saw an increase in the number of abandoned infants served. 

          - Provided sweatshirts and sweatpants to local schools for kids in need of warm clothes.

          - Moved locations and discontinued our maternity area and donated all items to Life Choice Ministries

          - Supplied 25 new and gently used coats to local coat drives  

          - Donated toys, gloves/mittens, socks, and hats to the Wamego Christmas Bureau through banks

          - Packed and shipped 28 Christmas Shoe Boxes.
