Wamego Public Library

Goal: $25,000.00

Specific Need

“Preserving the past, one memory at a time…”

Have you ever wished you could hold onto a cherished family photo, an old home video, or a precious letter forever? With the Legacy Lab at Wamego Public Library, you can.

This free, innovative new service, one of the first of its kind in Kansas, will give our community the tools to digitize and preserve photos, home videos, and important documents for generations to come. Patrons will be able to share their stories with family, friends, local museums, and historical societies, ensuring that Wamego’s history lives on.

This year, for Wamego Match Day, we are raising $25,000 toward the creation of the Legacy Lab. Your gift will help us purchase specialized scanners, video converters, archival equipment, and custom cabinetry to make this resource easy to use and accessible for all.

With the Wamego Foundation matching donations, your support will go twice as far in making this long-time dream a reality. Together, we can preserve our community’s history, one story at a time.

Mission

The Wamego Public Library enriches lives, promotes literacy and builds community by bringing together people, information and ideas.

Profile

In 1937 the dream of a library began in Wamego. That vision has continued to grow over the years, from the original location above First National Bank in 1939 to various locations along Lincoln.

Wamego Public Library landed in its first official home in 1957 on Elm Street, the location of the current police station. It remained there until 2002 when Kaw Valley State Bank generously gifted the current building on the corner of 5th and Lincoln.

With the growth of Wamego and the surrounding community, it became evident over a decade ago that the Library would need more space. The renovation and expansion project nearly doubled our square footage, with an abundance of room for people and materials.

The dream that began over eight decades ago is alive and well as we, the Wamego community, set our sights toward the next eighty years. No matter the era—or the location—the Library has been a vibrant part of the Wamego community.

Thank you for supporting the Wamego Public Library!
