Be Like Bones Foundation: Grants for Teachers

Specific Need

Bones was a long time teacher/coach/athletic director. We are going to provide assistance to teachers that epitomize the Be Like Bones motto! Our plan is to take requests or nominations, and reward teachers that are in need of resources for their classroom, continuing education, etc. We are still going to help students in need, along with trying to help them get interested in extracurricular activities!

Mission

THE BE LIKE BONES FOUNDATION WAS ESTABLISHED TO SUPPORT KIDS IN THEIR ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. IT WAS INSPIRED BY MY GRANDPA, BONES NAY, WHO FACED CHALLENGES IN SCHOOL DUE TO DYSLEXIA AND OTHER LEARNING DISABILITIES. THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN BAND, DEBATE, AND SPORTS, HE FOUND WAYS TO OVERCOME THESE OBSTACLES AND DISCOVERED HIS PASSION FOR LEARNING. ULTIMATELY, HE BECAME THE SENIOR CLASS PRESIDENT AT WICHITA NORTH HIGH SCHOOL AND RECEIVED A SCHOLARSHIP TO NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY. HE WENT ON TO PURSUE A CAREER IN EDUCATION AND COACHING, EVENTUALLY BECOMING AN ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY. THE BE LIKE BONES FOUNDATION AIMS TO HONOR MY GRANDPA'S LEGACY AND EMPOWER THE NEXT GENERATION!

Purpose

The Be Like Bones Foundation honors a lifetime dedicated to education, coaching, mentorship and service by investing in the educators who continue that work today.

The fund provides grants to Wamego-area teachers for needs that may fall outside traditional school funding, including classroom programs and projects, educational resources, professional development and continuing education opportunities.

By supporting teachers and their ideas, the Be Like Bones Foundation helps educators create meaningful opportunities for students while continuing Bones' legacy of teaching, encouraging and investing in others.

2026 Match Day Goal: Invest in Teachers

This Match Day, our goal is to grow the resources available for teacher grants throughout the year.

Donations will directly support classroom projects, innovative learning opportunities, educational resources and professional development requested by local educators.

When we invest in a teacher, the impact reaches an entire classroom — and continues with every student they teach.
