Goal: $10,000.00
Specific Need
St. John Lutheran School has been blessed to be able to provide a Christian-based education since 1873 and is celebrating 150 years in 2023! All donations from the 2023 Match Day will go towards improvements in the gymnasium - the school's main event center - including stage curtains, mats, etc. We have had and will be hosting several fun events there for our 150th Anniversary celebrations including the fan-favorite Pork Chop Supper on November 4th and fun Dinner Theatre in the Spring of 2024!
Mission
Our mission is to provide a foundation in Jesus Christ and to develop the God-given talents of learning.
Profile
St. John Lutheran School is a parochial school in Alma and is accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation commission. St. John is also a state accredited school with the Kansas Department of Education. Our teachers are all highly qualified and meet certification standards for the State of Kansas.
The dedication and love, which comes from this staff, shows in every area of our instructionaly and social programs -- making St. John Lutheran School a respected and nurturing environment from which children learn and grow into leaders. Our staff has the great pleasure and honor of emphasizing Christian teachings and activities that develop in our students, a strong, secured, and independent child who knows the importance of a faith walk. God has blessed St. John Lutheran School with 148 years of Christian education, and we pray many more.
The academic program at St. John Lutheran School concentrates on allowing children to reach their full academic potential. The school continually evaluates our educational programs and will make changes, as needed, to keep our students performing at levels above grade level expectation.
The Lutheran Parent Teacher League (LPTL) has a long history of financially supporting St. John Lutheran School through various fundraisers. The LPTL's budget covers library books and comprehension tests for those books, support for the lunch program, techonolgy, field trips, classroom supplies, and bonuses for the certified and uncertified staff. Every other year, the LPTL hosts a dinner and live & silent auction to raise money for captial improvements. Proceeds from previous auctions have installed a new playground & equipment, replaced the gym lights, and installed energy efficient windows in the school including new siding, soffits, & fascia, and remodeled our school kitchen.
Proceeds from previous Match Days have removed the old tile and installed a new epoxy floor in the renovated school kitchen (2020), installed a concrete alleway between the school and church so that the kids have a safe place to play (2021) and helped put a new roof on our school so the classrooms wouldn't leak (2022).
