Mission

The Wamego Fire Department Auxiliary (WFDA) serves as a support to the Wamego Fire Department (WFD) firefighters and their families. WFDA gives assistance for hospitalizations and deaths in the family, takes water to fire calls, and organizes social gatherings to promote bonding among the department members. In addition, the group coordinates the WFD Open House in the fall, the Christmas Bureau adopt-a-family at Christmas time, and the Wamego Fire Banquet in February. The group also fundraises to provide monetary support for the department and has established a scholarship in memory of WFD fallen firefighter John Randle.

Profile

The Wamego Fire Department is a volunteer department which responds to over 100 calls a year. The WFD responds to calls for: fires, carbon monoxide alarms, smoke alarms, gas leaks, car accidents, mutual aid, and medical support. They also provide storm spotting, Life Star assist, water rescue, and 4th of July pyrotechnic support. Each fall, the Wamego firefighters host an Open House for the community to learn more about fire safety and give many demonstrations and tours of the fire truck to daycares, schools, and other groups during Fire Safety Week.
