Profile

WAMEGO AIRPORT FUND

The City owns and maintains a small general aviation airport, reached by taking either U.S. Highway 24 or Military Trail Rd. east for two miles to Airport Rd., then south ½ mile.

The Airport has one asphalt runway, oriented north/south, having a length of 3,184 feet and a width of 45 feet, rated for visual approach only. The runway has low-intensity, pilot-activated lighting, and there is also a rotating beacon. Six tie-down spaces are available. Contact the City office regarding the availability of hangar space.

The Wamego Airport Fund was put into place this year to help our local airport. As many may know, this year Governor Kelly announced grants for over 66 airports in Kansas and the Wamego Airport was fortunate to receive two of these grants. This fund will help with these updates, help with general maintenance, and allow for additional improvements to help the future and growth of the Wamego Municipal Airport.

The first grant is to complete the second phase of the Master Plan for the Wamego Municipal Airport, originally written in 1998, for $66,500. The City will contribute $3,500.

The second grant Wamego received is to totally reconstruct the apron and connecting taxiway for the amount of $486,000. The City’s portion will be $54,000.
