Wamego Public Library

Goal: $30,000.00

Specific Need

Help us finish this story!

Once upon a time, in the surveys we took before beginning the Wamego Public Library Expansion and Renovation project, the public requested more community meeting space. This need has been confirmed by the use of our current small meeting room, which is in high demand.

As we traveled down this road, the architects provided a plan for a new programming and meeting space. The area will hold 150+ people for large events like storytimes, family nights, summer reading programs, and other community events. The Kansas Gas Service has provided a grant for needed technology. The Edna Mae Peddicord Charitable Fund has generously provided ongoing support for programming. With so much help along the way, we've been able to dream a little.

What if we added a retractable wall to divide our new programming and meeting space? With a divider, we'll have the flexibility to double our services by providing space for two smaller events, such as tutoring, webinars, visitations, and small community groups. How will we be able to purchase such a big thing as a wall? We need a hero!

That's where YOU come in! Your donation toward our $30,000 goal will be used to purchase and install this retractable wall. Any additional funds raised will purchase tables and chairs to finish out the room.

Your contribution is crucial to complete the programming and meeting space. Write a happy ending for the library and the community!

Mission

The Wamego Public Library enriches lives, promotes literacy and builds community by bringing together people, information and ideas.

Profile

In 1937 the dream of a library began in Wamego. That vision has continued to grow over the years, from the original location above First National Bank in 1939 to various locations along Lincoln.

The library landed its first permanent location in 1957 on Elm (the location of the current police station). It remained here until 2002 when Kaw Valley State Bank generously gifted the current location on the corner of 5th and Lincoln.

No matter the era—or the location—the library has been a vibrant part of the Wamego community.  Now the library is again growing and looking to expand our 7,000 square feet to nearly 13,000 square feet. The dream that began over eight decades ago is alive and well as we, the Wamego Community set our sights towards the next eighty years.

This amazing community has raised over three million dollars through grants, donations, pledges, and capital improvement funds, including 1.5 million dollars allocated by the City of Wamego. Although we have enough funds to complete the expansion portion of the building project, your financial support will allow us to continue to make essential improvements and needed upgrades to the renovation plans.

We will be creating a design feature to recognize donors of $500 or more in the new space and want you to be a part of it!
