Mission
The Wamego Public Library enriches lives, promotes literacy and builds community by bringing together people, information and ideas.
Profile
In 1937 the dream of a library began in Wamego. That vision has continued to grow over the years, from the original location above First National Bank in 1939 to various locations along Lincoln.
The library landed its first permanent location in 1957 on Elm (the location of the current police station). It remained here until 2002 when Kaw Valley State Bank generously gifted the current location on the corner of 5th and Lincoln.
No matter the era—or the location—the library has been a vibrant part of the Wamego community. Now the library is again growing and looking to expand our 7,000 square feet to nearly 13,000 square feet. The dream that began over eight decades ago is alive and well as we, the Wamego Community set our sights towards the next eighty years.
This amazing community has raised over three million dollars through grants, donations, pledges, and capital improvement funds, including 1.5 million dollars allocated by the City of Wamego. Although we have enough funds to complete the expansion portion of the building project, your financial support will allow us to continue to make essential improvements and needed upgrades to the renovation plans.
We will be creating a design feature to recognize donors of $500 or more in the new space and want you to be a part of it!
