The Tuition Assistance Program

Specific Need

A number of our high school students continue to be in need of financial assistance in order to enroll in college-level courses during their senior year at Wamego High School.  Donations to The Tuition Assistance Program would make it possible for some of those identified students to begin their higher education path, while still at WHS.

Mission

The purpose of The Tuition Assistance Program is to provide financial support to high school seniors who require financial assistance in order to be able to enroll in and receive credit for college-level courses while still seniors in high school.

Profile

The Tuition Assistance Program

At the request of, and in partnership with, Wamego Unified School District 320, the Wamego Community Foundation established a Tuition Assistance Program in the spring of 2018 which is being funded through various donations as well as by contributions from certain existing scholarship funds.  Because of this fund, financial support is provided to high school seniors who require financial assistance in order to be able to enroll in and receive credit for college-level courses while still seniors in high school.  These college-level courses are designed to award concurrent credit hours to students who are entered on both their high school and college transcripts upon completion of the course by the student.

Mrs. Kugler (Wamego High School) and Dr. Siebert (USD 320 District)  contacted the Wamego Community Foundation and advised that a number of students desired to take concurrent credit program courses, but were unable to do so because they lacked the necessary resources for payment of the costs of the required tuition.  In response, and in order to make it possible for them to begin their college careers while still in high school, the Tuition Assistance Program Fund was created by USD 320 District to make financial assistance available to these students.  In order to further support this concurrent credit college course program (which the District is now in the process of expanding), this program is a participating entity in this Wamego Community Foundation Match Day.
